7 common mistakes in web page development

web page development

Providing the user with a pleasant and enjoyable experience is one of the most important things to consider when designing a web page. Often developers and web designers focus heavily on the functionality of the page and forget to make the user feel comfortable with the result of the page. Here are 7 of the most common mistakes that web developers and designers make and that they should avoid to create a successful web page.

1. Broken links

The links are responsible for our website being interactive. It allows the user to go from one site to another with the click of a button. They are an essential part of the web page and without them the web would be a very boring and monotonous one.

With this in mind, we must be aware of where our links point and make sure they remain functional. It is frustrating for users to come across broken links which causes the user to leave our page.

2. Reference files that do not exist

When designing a web page, we frequently use files that are not necessarily developed by us. These files can be images, CSS, JavaScript, etc. It is important to be sure that these files exist because failure to do so increases the time our website loads in the user’s browser. And that’s exactly what we don’t want.

You can avoid this type of error by reading my post. Decrease the loading time of your web page.

3. Bad organization

The first impression is what counts. At least that’s how many people say. This phrase can be applied, in the same way, to web pages. So we must create sections within our web page to separate what is the main content from the header, menus and other types of section within the page.

A good organization allows the user to navigate the web page naturally. Now, when our website is poorly organized, it causes the user to spend a lot of time looking for the content they want and not taking advantage of what our website offers.

4. Excessive advertising

We all want to be able to generate enough money to live well through our website. But when a page is saturated with ads and advertisements it makes it look unattractive and of low quality. Besides that it makes the user feel uncomfortable browsing it.

We must maintain a balance where the user can navigate comfortably and, in turn, we can generate money with our page by displaying advertising moderately.

5. Menus difficult to use

Web designers love to create menus with animations and to make it look as advanced as possible. Unfortunately this is not always good. The user looks for menus that he can use naturally. When we put a very extravagant menu, it is possible that the user gets lost and finds it difficult to use it.

6. Different designs

It is important that our website has a uniform design. That when the user enters the top of the page, they see the same design and style as when they go to the about us section. This provides identity to our website. Plus it looks a lot more professional.

7. Incorrect screen resolution

Having to “scroll” horizontally is one of the most irritating things a web page can have. This is why it is important that our design adjusts to all types of screen resolution that our users may have. That the page is displayed properly on any screen makes the user feel comfortable and take advantage of what our page offers.

Conclusion

It is important to make our users feel comfortable and that our page is 100% functional. By avoiding these 7 common mistakes we make sure to retain our users as much as possible because, in the end, they are the ones who make our website a total success or failure.
